How Typekaro works

Typekaro teaches you to type without looking at the keys. You can use all of it by yourself, with no account. A school or a coaching centre can also use it with its students.

Two sides

Everything in Typekaro belongs to one of them.

Your own learning

Learn, Practice, Play, Test and Progress. It works with no account and no connection, and what you do is saved on your device. An account is free and optional: it keeps the same progress on another device.

Organisations

A school, a college, a coaching centre or a team. It has batches, which are groups of students. Nobody has to join one, and joining changes nothing about your own learning.

I am a...

Three kinds of person use Typekaro: a student, a teacher, and an owner. Choose yours for its guide.

Typekaro

  • Student

Learns, and can join a batch

    • Learn, Practice, Play and Test
    • Their own Progress
    • Classes: the batches they are in
    • Join with a code, and leave at any time
    Guide for students
  • Teacher

Guides the batches they are assigned to

    • My batches
    • Each batch's students, by name and roll number
    • The seven things about each student
    • The batch's join code, link and QR
    Guide for teachers
  • Owner

    Runs the organisation

    • Overview of the organisation
    • Batches and their join codes
    • Students: everybody, in one list
    • Teachers and what they teach
    • Settings: name, kind, handing over
    Guide for owners

Everybody is a learner first. One person can be a student in one organisation and a teacher or the owner of another, but in one organisation they are staff or a student, never both.

How a batch works

From an owner making one to a student leaving it.

  1. The owner creates a batch

One group of students, such as Morning. It comes with a join code, a link and a QR.

  2. The code is shared

On a board, in a message, or printed. The owner, and a teacher assigned to the batch, can show it.

  3. A student signs in and uses it

A code is checked only after sign-in. The student is shown the organisation, the batch, and exactly what joining shares.

  4. The student presses Join

Nothing happens until then. Afterwards the batch is in the student's Classes.

  5. Staff see who joined, give a roll number, and see seven things

The owner and the batch's teachers see the student's name, if their account has one. The owner also sees their email address.

  6. The student can leave at any time

Leaving needs no approval and stops the sharing at once. The student's own progress is untouched.

What can teachers see?

Who a student of their batch is, and seven things about their practice. Nothing else.

Staff can see who you are, and seven things

Who you are: your name and your picture, if your account has them, and your roll number. The owner of the organisation also sees your email address. Your teachers do not.

About your practice:

  1. Roll number, given when you join
  2. The day you last practised
  3. How many days you practised
  4. How many lessons you have completed
  5. Your latest test
  6. Your best test
  7. The keys you miss most

Staff never see

  • Anything you type
  • Your games
  • Your badges and streaks
  • Your settings
  • Any other batch or organisation you are in

Other students see nothing about you at all.

These figures are reported by the student's device. Typekaro does not check them. Progress and privacy, in full

Your progress, before and after a batch

  1. Your progress is yours

It is saved on your device, and in your account if you have one. Nobody else sees it.

  2. You join a batch

You are shown what will be shared before you press Join. Joining shares nothing else.

  3. Staff see who you are, and seven things

The owner and the teachers of that batch see your name and roll number and the seven things. The owner also sees your email address. Practice days and tests count from the day you joined.

  4. You leave, or are removed

Staff stop seeing anything at once. Nobody is told, and no record of you is kept there.

  5. Your progress stays with you

Nothing of yours is deleted or changed by joining, leaving, or the organisation closing.

Where should I go?

Shared computers

In a lab or at a centre, more than one person uses the same computer.

On a shared computer, sign out and clear this device when you finish. Plain Sign out leaves your progress on that computer for the next person. Sign out and clear this device, in the account menu, removes it from that computer and never from your account.

Common problems

My join code does not work
Check it with your teacher: a code can be replaced or stopped, and it stops working when its batch is archived. Every code that does not work gets the same message, on purpose. After several wrong codes you are asked to wait a while before trying again.
I cannot find Classes
Classes is in the sidebar once you are in a batch, and you must be signed in. If you have not joined yet, use Join with a code.
I am a teacher and see no batches
The owner of the organisation assigns teachers to batches. Until they assign you one, there is nothing to open. Ask them.
My teacher says my progress is missing
Staff see what your account holds. Practice done while signed out, or on a device that has not reached the internet since, is not there yet. Sign in on the device you practised on.
I want to leave an organisation as a teacher
A teacher cannot leave by themselves yet. Ask the owner to remove you.
I reached the limit of organisations
An account can be in at most five organisations, counting every one where you are an owner, a teacher or a student. Leave one to join another.

May we count which parts of Typekaro get used? Never what you type, and never who you are. Typekaro works exactly the same either way. What this means
