There is no sign-up, no login and no user account. You are not asked for an email address, a name, or anything else. Open the page and start typing.

The test runs entirely in your browser. What you type is compared against the passage in the page itself; it is not transmitted to a server, and the application has no backend or database to transmit it to.

When a test finishes, the result is written to your browser’s local storage under the key typing-test-history. Each entry holds the date, the test length, your speed, your accuracy and the character counts. The passage you typed is not stored. Your practice preferences are stored separately under typing-test-settings.

Local storage lives on your device and is readable only by this site, in the browser you used. The most recent 200 results are kept; older ones are dropped as new tests are added.

Because the history is stored locally, anything that clears site data for this site will delete it: clearing your browsing data, using a browser setting that clears storage on exit, or closing a private or incognito window. There is no copy anywhere else, so it cannot be recovered.

You can also delete it deliberately at any time from the Clear history button on the History page.

Results are tied to one browser on one device. Taking a test on your laptop and then opening the site on your phone will show an empty history on the phone, because there is no account to sync them through. This is a direct consequence of storing nothing on a server.

The application sets no cookies. It uses local storage for the two keys described above, and nothing else.

No analytics or tracking scripts are included in the source of this application. Note that the hosting provider serving these pages may keep its own request logs, as any web host does; that is outside what the application itself controls.

The two typefaces used here are served from this site’s own domain, bundled at build time rather than requested from a font CDN while you browse.
