Batches and joining
A batch is one group of students in an organisation. This is how somebody gets into one, what they see afterwards, and how it ends.
Joining with a code
A code typed in, a link, and a QR all lead to the same place.
Open the link, scan the QR, or type the code
A code is six characters. Capital letters, spaces and hyphens do not matter.
Signed out, you are shown the same prompt for every code. Nothing is looked up, so nobody can test codes without an account.
The code is checked
You are shown the organisation and the batch. A code that does not work gets one message whatever the reason.
Read what joining shares
The notice lists it. Declining stores nothing.
Press Join
You are added, and only you. Joining the same batch twice changes nothing.
What Classes shows
Classes is your own page. Nobody else sees it.
- Each organisation you are a student of, and your roll number there.
- Each batch, the day you joined it, and whether it is active or archived.
- What staff can see, in the same words as the join screen.
- Leave, on every batch.
Leaving a batch
Choose Leave on the batch
In Classes. You are asked to confirm.
You are out at once
No approval is needed, and nobody is told.
Staff stop seeing you
On their next look. If it was your last batch there, you are no longer in that organisation at all.
Your progress stays
Nothing of yours is deleted. You can join again with a code, as a fresh start.
Active and archived batches
An owner archives a batch when it is finished.
| Active batch | Archived batch | |
|---|---|---|
| New students can join | Yes, with its code | No |
| Its join code | Works, unless the owner stopped it | Stops working |
| Staff see students' progress | Yes, the seven things | No, the owner included |
| A teacher can open it | If assigned to it | No |
| Shown in a student's Classes | Yes | Yes, marked archived |
| A student can leave it | Yes | Yes |
| Students' own progress | Untouched | Untouched |
| Can be undone | No: an archived batch cannot be restored |
Questions
- Why does it say only that the code did not work?
- A wrong code, a replaced one, a stopped one and an archived batch all get the same message, so that a code cannot be used to find out about a batch.
- Why am I asked to wait?
- After several wrong codes an account waits a while before trying again. This keeps codes from being guessed.
- I am staff there. Can I join as a student?
- No. In one organisation a person is staff or a student, never both.
- Can I be in two batches of one organisation?
- Yes. Your roll number is the same in both, and each batch counts your practice from the day you joined that batch.
