Progress and privacy

Your progress belongs to you. Joining a batch shares seven things with that organisation's staff, and nothing else, for as long as you stay.

From joining to leaving

  1. Your progress is yours

It is saved on your device, and in your account if you have one. Nobody else sees it.

  2. You join a batch

You are shown what will be shared before you press Join. Joining shares nothing else.

  3. Staff see who you are, and seven things

The owner and the teachers of that batch see your name and roll number and the seven things. The owner also sees your email address. Practice days and tests count from the day you joined.

  4. You leave, or are removed

Staff stop seeing anything at once. Nobody is told, and no record of you is kept there.

  5. Your progress stays with you

Nothing of yours is deleted or changed by joining, leaving, or the organisation closing.

What staff can and cannot see

The owner of the organisation and the teachers of your batch. Nobody else: not other students, not other organisations, not the public.

Staff can see who you are, and seven things

Who you are: your name and your picture, if your account has them, and your roll number. The owner of the organisation also sees your email address. Your teachers do not.

About your practice:

  1. Roll number, given when you join
  2. The day you last practised
  3. How many days you practised
  4. How many lessons you have completed
  5. Your latest test
  6. Your best test
  7. The keys you miss most

Staff never see

  • Anything you type
  • Your games
  • Your badges and streaks
  • Your settings
  • Any other batch or organisation you are in

Other students see nothing about you at all.

From when

Two of the seven have dates, and those are counted only from the day you joined that batch.

WhatCounted from
Days practised, and the day last practisedThe day you joined that batch
Latest test and best testThe moment you joined that batch
Lessons completedAll of them, including before you joined
The keys you miss mostAll your practice, including before you joined

In the notice's own words

The notice shown before you join, word for word

If you join, the owner of this organisation and the teachers of this batch will see:

  • the days you practise, from today
  • your typing test results from today: speed, accuracy, date and length
  • how many lessons you have finished, including ones you finished before today
  • the keys you miss most, counted over all your practice

This is so your teacher can see who is practising and who needs help.

They will also see your name and your picture, if your account has them, and the owner of this organisation will see your email address. Your teachers do not see your email address. You are also given a roll number.

They never see what you type, your games, your badges or your streak, or any other class you are in. Other students see nothing about you.

You can leave at any time, and leaving stops this at once.

On a shared computer, sign out and clear this device when you finish.

When it stops

On the next look by staff after any of these.

  • You leave the batch.
  • The owner removes you from the organisation.
  • The batch is archived.
  • The organisation is deleted.
  • You delete your account.

None of the first four deletes or changes anything of your own.

On a shared computer

On a shared computer, sign out and clear this device when you finish. The account menu has two ways out. Sign out ends your session and leaves your progress on that computer. Sign out and clear this device also removes it from that computer, and never from your account. If you sign in and find work that is not yours, choose This is not mine.

Questions

Are the figures checked by Typekaro?
No. They are worked out on the student's device and reported by it. Staff are told this on the screen where they see them.
Do staff see my games, badges or streak?
No. None of them, in any form.
Does an organisation keep anything about me after I leave?
No. When you leave or are removed, Typekaro keeps no record there that you were a student.
Is my data in the copy I can download?
Yes. The download from Progress lists the organisations and batches you belong to, with your roll number and the day you joined. Bringing a file back in never makes you a member of anything.

The full privacy page is here.

May we count which parts of Typekaro get used? Never what you type, and never who you are. Typekaro works exactly the same either way. What this means
